My Story
My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic given to me by an aunt as a holiday gift. The first photograph I ever took; a bread basket with a plate of pickles and some champagne glasses is right here on my desk. When I got that first roll of film back, I felt something shift. This was my way to interpret the world. I come from a family of artists: sculptors, painters, and chefs. I couldn’t draw, let alone paint or carve. But now I had my medium. That same winter, my mother took me to an Irving Penn exhibit, and a life chasing light and capturing the human form began.
Jonah Carter Studios was started as a way for me to explore a more intimate form of photography with a close-knit group of truly empowered people that care greatly for each other. A good friend describes it this way, “So many of us are solitary in our practices, so many of us miss the tribe that our soul remembers...”
Most of my clients come by word of mouth from friends. I deliver every job as if it were for family.
